PHIL McKENZIE, MANAGING DIRECTOR

Started in roofing industry in 1977 as a labourer and been fortunate with people I have worked for and with, owing a huge debt of gratitude to Les Fowler who took me under his wing and ultimately as his business partner, an Aberdeen Football Club fan and supporter, as well as local Highland league, avid (but poor) golfer, proud husband, father and Grandpa, who also enjoys and supports Aberdeen Lynx Ice Hockey club.

EUAN SMITH

EUAN SMITH, CAD TECHNICIAN

After leaving Oldmachar Academy I joined the design department at FML in 2016 and have gained a wide knowledge of various cladding systems and take lead design responsibilities on various projects from tender drawing all the way through to construction issue. I’ve also progressed through the various age groups at Aberdeen Lynx Ice Hockey Team and am now an established member of the 1st team squad that competes nationally plus a keen gym enthusiast.

RHYS SMALL, DESIGN MANAGER

My career began at Fowler McKenzie in 2013, when I left school to become an apprentice architectural technician where the company assisted me in obtaining the relevant qualification through block release. Following that, as the Design department grew I progressed to Design Manager, now overseeing the department. Outside of work I’m kept busy with projects around the house but enjoy getting out with my dog to visit local sights.

STEWART McKENZIE, CONTRACTS MANAGER

Roofing is in my blood having initially started at FML on the tools not long after its formation and over the intervening years risen to Contracts Manager helping the company deliver projects on time and budget. A keen golfer in my spare time I’ve also help out the Lynx Ice Hockey club where my son plays and assist behind the scenes in the running of the club.

DAMIAN KALINOWSKI, ARCHITECTURAL TECNICIAN

I joined FML as a member of the design team after graduating from RGU in 2022 as an Architectural Technician. Since then, I am gradually expanding my knowledge of the construction industry particularly in the drawing department, where I hope to progress in the coming years. Outside of work, I'm a football fan who has been playing and watching the game since I was young and continue to do so today.

Kirsty Shaw, Accounts Administrator

I joined the FML team in Jan 2024, having known Phil previously from our connection via the Linx Ice Hockey Club. Over my career, I've gained experience in various accounts roles and am ready to bring this knowledge and expertise to the construction industry. As well as being a big Linx fan in my spare time, I'm also a fan of motorbike racing, particularly the British Superbikes.

Since graduating from RGU in 2010 then experiencing various QS roles I landed at FML in 2016 to take up the estimating duties and progressed to managing commercial responsibilities. Outside of work I’m keen on outdoor pursuits like bagging Munros and running anything from Parkruns to Ultra Marathons.

I joined FML as a trainee in 2023, which has allowed me to be enrolled at Edinburgh Napier to gain a degree whilst simultaneously gaining on-the-job experience within the estimating department. Outside of work, I’m a rugby fan and have been playing since I was little.

We believe that the safety of our employees and those they are working with is of utmost importance, and to that end, we train our team beyond the current basic safety standards. Our team all hold a Level 3 NVQ in Roof Sheeting and Cladding, and in addition, our site supervisors and contract managers receive supervisory training. All safety certification and training certificates are available on request. All risk assessments and method statements are job-specific, and we tailor them for each job and its requirements.
